What to eat for summer weight loss and longevity.

I see you. Come on out! You can’t hide. I know – it’s terrifying that it’s bathing suit season. But, you’re gorgeous! Your beach body is awesome the way it is. But, summer celebrations can leave you feeling bloated, foggy and dreading putting on a bikini. Keep your beach body ready health. Here’s what you need to know to survive summer celebrations and how to do it so you live younger, longer.

Healthy Gut

Summertime is synonymous with cottage parties, picnics and barbeques where there are lots of treats, junk food and snacks. Don’t stand and peck away at the various snacks in those pretty coloured plastic bowls – that’s a recipe for needing to pack your stretchy pants, not a bikini. Take a plate, serve yourself a portion of food and walk away from the buffet! Not only will eating less keep your waist line healthier, it will keep your gut happy. Who wants bloating and digestive woes at the beach?

Healthiest Drink for Summer

Cheers! It’s summer. It is time for celebrating with friends. But, be wary of what is in your glass. High calorie drinks can quickly add up. Instead, drink water. Get fancy with sparkling water served with a slice of lemon or lime, or a sprig of mint. These options are delicious and low in calories. Plus, drinking water helps you stay hydrated. That will help your skin – hydrated skin is plump so it looks younger and less wrinkled.

The Best Summer Diet

Is dieting worth it? No! Wear your swimsuit with pride without being a Grouch! According to a 2009 study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, eating a low fat diet has more positive effects on your mood than a low carb diet. Eat a healthy, whole food-based diet that includes quality carbohydrates such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans and whole grains.

Trick: Eat a salad before heading to summer gatherings – it is easier to resist less healthy foods when you aren’t hungry.

Your Happiest Beach Body

Eating is only one part of a healthy plan to keep your beach body in top shape. Getting enough sleep and exercise are also very important. Well-rested adults get 8 hours of sleep a night. As for getting toned-up for the beach, focus on multiple repetitions of slow and controlled muscle-contracting exercises such as those done in a yoga class, a paddle-boarding ride, or a moderately intense hike.

Enjoy your summer!
